The Gift of Dance

FAQs

How do I get started?

Fred Astaire Dance Studios is just a phone call away. Private lessons can be scheduled anytime during our business hours. Call now to set an appointment for your first lesson.

Do I need any experience?

No. At Fred Astaire, we enjoy those two left feet! Our Instructors make learning to dance fun and exciting at any level.

Do I need a partner?

No. Here at Fred Astaire Dance Studios we teach both singles and couples. If you come in as one of our single students, your instructor will be your partner for your private lesson. Our practice parties and group classes will provide plenty of opportunity to meet other students with the same interests and goals.

Why do I have to sign an agreement?

We fill out agreements to protect your investment in your dance education. As part of a highly respected national franchise, all of our business practices are monitored by the Fred Astaire Corpporate offices to ensure excellent customer service and complete transparancy. Every agreement signed by our students is sent to our regional and national corporate offices for review, so you can rest assured knowing that your investment is secure and its accuracy is backed by the full weight of the Fred Astaire Corporation.

What is a private lesson?

All lessons are 40 minute sessions; the hours of instruction are Monday-Friday 12pm-9pm and Saturday by appointment only. Private instruction is tailored to your personal needs. Learning at your own pace is the optimum method of comprehension and that is what private instruction enforces. One common misconception about private lessons is that they take place in seclusion. On the contrary; up to ten private lessons could be going on at the same time in our Ballroom. Our students have found that learning in this environment has given them a major advantage in social dance settings.

How much does it cost?

Fred Astaire studios offer all types of dance instruction - from ballroom to salsa to nightclub dancing, as well as customized wedding programs and competition level - for all ages and abilities through private, group, and practice lessons. Our packages range in price depending on the size of the package you choose. Take advantage of one of our special introductory offers, we’ll be happy to help you choose the package that is right for you!

Can I focus on more than one dance at a time?
Absolutely. All of the dances at Fred Astaire Dance Studios are interrelated! It is just as easy to learn 3 or 4 dances as it is to learn 1 or 2. In most dance situations you will need to know a variety of dance steps in a multitude of dances… no one wants to go to a dance and sit out everything except for the waltz!

Will my lessons be at the same time every week?

Not necessarily. In order to accommodate your busy schedule, we attempt to be as flexible as possible. We also recommend that you schedule your lessons a few weeks in advance in order to reserve your preferred times.

What do we teach?

Our goal is to prepare you to dance with confidence in any social situation. Our American-style curriculum consists of basic dances that will allow you to dance anywhere, with anyone, on any occasion. Specialty dances and unique choreographies are also available.

Do you have an age limit?

No! Whether you are 19 or 99 years old, it is never too early or too late to learn how to dance! While we do cater primarily to an adult clientele, please contact us for our availibility for Juniors.

How should I dress for my lesson?

Comfort and class is what we encourage. Comfortable leather soled shoes dance best on our ballroom floor. Any type of sling-backs, tennis shoes or boots are discouraged.

What is a practice party?

Our Practice Parties are held on Friday nights. These events are meant to ease you into real life social dancing situations. All of our staff are on hand to help you as you practice what you've learned during the week. Check our studio's calendar for our monthly schedule.

What is a group class?

Our Group Classes are designed to be taken in addition to your private lessons. We offer a variety of Topics to better your technique, physical fitness, and understanding of ballroom dance. In order to attend our Group Classes, you must regularly attend private lessons as well. Check our studio's calendar for our monthly schedule.

Can I bring my friends?

Yes! Bringing guests is not only allowed, it is absolutely supported. We often say that a happy student is our best commercial; if you love to dance, why not bring in your friends to share in the fun. We even have special guest parties and promotions, so ask your instructor for more details today!

What is a guest party?

Once a month, we sponsor a champagne guest party. Similar to an Open House, this party gives students the chance to introduce their friends to the world of ballroom dancing and all of its benefits, while earning complimentary lessons for themselves!. We have floor shows demonstrating the various levels of dance, performed by both students and staff. Reservations are preferred for the guest party, so call ahead to let us know that you and your friends plan to attend. Check our studio calendar for our monthly schedule.

What is your cancellation policy?

Due to the growing popularity of ballroom dancing, we appreciate that our students cancel any lesson at least 24 hours ahead of time to avoid being charged.

Is it difficult to learn to dance?

No. Our system of instruction makes it easy to learn. It will take time to master the various dances and a repertoire of steps. However, the learning is easy and fun. A steady approach with periodic practice will produce visible results quickly, and you will have so much fun, you'll forget you are learning!
